My images are about escape, based on an initial response to automatic thought. Escape from influence, inspiration, learning, correctness and rationality. Where the voices of self-condemnation are drowned out. Where visual associations need not be identified or labeled. Where expression of pure thought is allowed to exist without the limitations of self imposed rules and regulations. Where I can be as serious or as silly as I want.
When I create, I’m attempting to overthrow all barriers; to reach a state of purity much like the dream and mentality of childhood, while at the same time employing my honed skills as a draftsman. This creative process of getting beyond logic and common sense while paying attention to precision image making sets up a dynamic of chaos and control, freedom and frustration.
There is a thrill in creating an image that no one has seen before. Rather than impose a definitive visual solution, I instead invite the viewer to bring their own interpretations and associations to their viewing experience.
