My name is David Addison Small and I live and work in Boston,Massachusetts. I studied in the seventies in Reichenau,Austria with Ernst Fuchs and in Amherst, Massachusetts with Gregory Gillespie. My studio is at the Boston Center for the Arts and I teach painting at Massachusetts College of Art. The Grounded Angel series of paintings presented here depicts a group of rotund, bearded, cigar-chomping Angels who have forgotten their divine origins and now enjoy the Earth's simple pleasures. I wanted to show the spirit and the senses as one. The paintings landscape are from familiar New England fields and woodland and the vast magical beings seem quite comfortable inhabiting them. All of the paintings are in oil and egg tempera on an earth green underpainting.
