The work of Kevin Llewellyn, like the artist himself, is beautifully complex despite it’s traditional, academic look. His artistic personality seems to be split between being a creative enigma capable of bringing to life amazing, erotic and fantastic beings, and a genuine understanding and appreciation for 19th century academic realism.
Motherhood, religion, the grotesque and the unknown are all important themes in his body of work, the paint itself becoming his mistress. Llewellyn paints as if being haunted by some mysterious and romantic sadness, he both idealizes and objectifies, and in his subjects his own obsessive gaze is reflected. Llewellyn currently resides in Los Angeles, a city that continues to inspire his dark visions.
