This body of work is part of a series of mixed-media sculptures and installations based in the idea of transformation. Each piece references my sense of self, symbolically transformed into amalgams of feminine archetypes and personal symbols. In many cultures, past and present, there is the belief that humans can gain a clear consciousness of themselves by confronting what they simultaneously are and are not. It is through the act of visually transforming myself into that which I am not--a spider, a deer, or a violin--that I begin to understand who I am.
Theses sculptures are life-sized/human scale, allowing them mingle with their audience in a gallery setting. More information is available about each piece upon request.
