“My art starts from a flash and then takes on a life of it’s own. In the early stages I don’t try to nut everything out, rather I let it develop on the canvas. This process excites me, realizing works that speak to our collective experience. I am inspired by culture, nature, cool skies and the remnants of our visual history and nostalgia. I look as other people look, but what I see is unique and what my hands make of what I see, is my art, and my art is me.”
Barr’s work mines the territory of visual iconography, memory, mythology and spirit. Genre slip and slide from pop to tiki to surrealism, however a constant endures, an attraction to narrative and identity.
