"My art has two faces.
"The left-side face is influenced by my uncontrolled imagination, my travels, my spirituals experiences and my fascination for the mysterious and bizarre aspect of life, what we call magic or fantastic. Here we find gods and demons, angels and weird creatures, dreams and nightmares, metaphysical concept, myths, various supernatural phenomenons and other poltergeists. In my art everything is symbolic and seems to be like a living dream where nothing common appears.
"The right-side face is more contemporary. Here there is no place for spirituality. The topic is the human being and his problems, considered in a humoristic and surrealistic way : love, desire, marriage, family, lost childhood, sexual identity, evolution of the traditional role of man and woman in the modern society, etc…
"So my freedom is to travel between those two worlds, from the visible to the invisible, the human to the spiritual, and to paint those two realities who are one."
Olivier Zappelli is one of 50 contemporary artists featured in Metamorphosis 2 (beinArt Publishing).
