Animated surreal movies

Postby mawltea » Sun Feb 17, 2008 4:16 pm

Do anyone here know of any full-length movies that are animated AND surrealistic? Would be awesome to see. The closest thing I can think of is Waking Life, which is kinda trippy, but not exactly surrealistic.

Perhaps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Planet
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgCxCZNkQ9E

And others by René Laloux.

Chronopolis by Piotr Kamler: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262333/
Clip in youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeeHO6rWpYw

Priit Pärn (mentioned in the sticky thread above) has also made full lenghts, like Frank and Wendy:

The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb (1993): http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0108069/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_RedmbTQD4

Isn't this pretty trippy too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak3z2Pm7Iwg

Many thanks! Just what I was looking for (although it would be cool to see something slightly newer too). :)

OH the Mark Twain Video...I use to own that in VHS a long time ago and me and my kids watched it all the time. I also had Fantastic Planet, both of these movies are a must see.

The best stop motion surreal animation I have ever seen is the films of the Bothers Quay...their work is amazing.
The one get of the Quay brothers :
