I don’t understand how people can smoke and not utilize the immense focus it gives you.

Because this isn't the case for everybody.
Some people don't have that immense focus when they're stoned.
When I'm stoned, my mind can't focus on one thing for more than like 2 seconds.

When I was a teenager, for about 5 years, I totally zoned into working with marijuana - I never used to stop doodling and writing music - listening back it wasn't good enough, although I was only learning. When I quit, everything I did took on a higher quality, although occasionally when I smoke now I can do cool things with paintings/drawings/music. I love marijuana, in fact I'm trying to score now, to no avail unfortunately, but I don't think that my work benefits from too much drug-taking, only occasional use does any good.
