In his book 'The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross' John Allegro argues that religion came from shamanism and ancient goods (Prometheus, Dyonysos, Mitra, Jesus etc) wasnt a historical figures but a hallucinogenic mushroom symbols, Amanita muscaria; that the pagan myths, Rig veda, New Testament etc was concocted by users of the mushroom as a code for their mystical lore...

John Marco Allegro, the man who started all this madness... never try amanita mushrooms or any other psychedelics. He create his hypothesis by studying Sumerian language, Greek mythology and Bible.

I read his work and illustrate the mushroom-god concept. Allegro write that JAHWEH was a storm-thunder-rain god, Mother of Jesus / Budda / Horus (etc) was some kind of nature goddess (allegory of soil). Jesus "eat my body-bread" of course was the magic mushroom-sun symbol (cap of amanita shroom look like sun or halo). I added the "12 disciples". According to Allegro they are not physical human figures, but symbols for 12 zodiac signs. You can see the Cat as Leo, fish head Pope and sumerian Ea-Enki-Oannes as Pisces-Fishes, Scorpio, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Aries-Ram, Gemini-Twins etc. Three red and white characters in low center was inspired by real clothes of Pope, japanese buddhist monk - Jizo and siberian shaman from Kamchatka.
