Kris Kuksi the prolific Sculptor

May 7th, 2007 by Jon Beinart

Sculpture by Kris Kuksi & his pages in MetamorphosisI am continually impressed by the detail and magnificence of Kris Kuksi's sculptures. He must never stop to eat or sleep. Since I met Kris (online) I have seen a new sculpture almost every fortnight. Each more detailed than the last. I am also fortunate enough to own an original drawing by Kris, which can be seen in the beinArt Collection. Kris is just as talented at Drawing & Painting as he is with mixed media sculpture. I look forward to meeting Kris and seeing his sculptures in the flesh.

Here is an artists statement Kris wrote for Metamorphosis (beinArt Publishing) in 2006:

"Perhaps it is far too objectionable to begin to agree upon what art is or what great art should be. Therefore, it is most certain that for myself, within this occupation, I must be true to my tastes and to expel those pressures to conform to art-trends new or
old."

Sergei Aparin’s New Monograph

May 7th, 2007 by Jon Beinart

Sergei Aparin MonographSergei Aparin recently published a Monograph of his Paintings, Drawings & Sculptures

Sergei is an incredible painter who's works have been described as enigmatic & metaphysical. I am a huge admirer of Sergei's Art and have watched his portfolio grow for many years now.

I look forward to recieving his new book in the post. Sergei's book is 128 pages, with 90 color reproductions, with a hard cover and is limited  to 1000 copies. If you want to purchase a signed copy, send an email via Sergei's contact form.

"…Even an objective picture of reality in a given moment reveals only one of its possible viewings. I attempt instead to encourage new creations, outside of the fenced world of perceptual experience; to convert dreams of reality to the reality of life."

Sergei Aparin - 2006

Sergei Aparin is also one of 50 Artists featured in our first publication entitled Metamorphosis.

Ivan Titor Oil PaintingIvan Titor is a fantastic artist from The Czech Republic who emailed me the other day about being featured on beinArt.org. I am excited to share his work with the world.

Here is an exerpt from Ivan's Artist statement:

"In my paintings I prefer balancing on an imaginary edge that, in our minds, divides reality and fiction, the beginning and the end, as well as order and chaos."

Robert Williams Lowbrow Art Interview

May 7th, 2007 by Jon Beinart

Robert Williams is one of the most popular artists in America today and is a featured artist in the Surreal Art Collective. His dynamic work often includes women, cars, food, and 1950's Americana. Robt. masters the so-called "lowbrow" art-forms: rock album cover art, comic art, hot-rod art, etc.

Here is a recent documentary interview of Robert Williams (sourced from YouTube) which I found very interesting. Williams speaks passionately about the trends of the contemporary art world, the general bias against representational paintings and being pigeon holed as a common illustrator.

In mid 1960s San Francisco, Robt. became art director for hot-rod hero Ed "Big Daddy Roth. Robt. quickly became one of the most important West Coast underground artists - creating psychedelic posters and contributing to comics like Zap with great artists like Robert Crumb.

Williams also founded Juxtapoz Magazine and is considered the founding father of Cartoon Surrealism & Lowbrow Art. Nicolas Cage, Leonardo diCaprio, Johnny Depp, Jesse James & many other celebrities have purchased Robt. Williams' paintings.

We have also published a short article by Williams on Lowbrow Art

Installation of Wolves Hurtling into a wall

May 7th, 2007 by Jon Beinart

Cai Guo-Qiang: Head On

A very impressive installation I stumbled into on a random search for inspiration. Dont call the RSPCA. These are not real wolves!

Title: Head On

Date: August 26—October 15, 2006

Exhibition: Cai Guo-Qiang: Head On

Institution: Deutsche Guggenheim

Location: Berlin, Germany

Materials: 99 life-sized replicas of wolves and glass

Concept: With few wolves scattered in the front gallery, all ninety-nine wolves run, gallop, and jump toward the far end of the exhibition hall, where a wall stands. The bravery of the wolves is met head on by the unyielding wall. As the leading wolves go down, many more follow with force and determination. As those in the front fall and pile up, those behind take up their positions.
