Steven Kenny Exhibit at Glass Garage
Press Release from Glass Garage Fine Art Gallery:
Acclaimed Surrealist painter Steven Kenny makes his West Coast debut with his solo exhibition “Cryptohematology: Secrets In My Bloodline” at the Glass Garage Fine Art Gallery in West Hollywood, California on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
Kenny is known for creating lush, mannered paintings that resemble society portraiture from the Victorian era, but injected throughout with Surrealist elements, particularly in his blending of human figures, birds, and plants.
“The world I depict is one where interdependencies prosper and hierarchies crumble,” states Kenny.
Since completing his formal training at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1984, Kenny has exhibited in several dozen gallery and museum shows throughout the United States and Europe.
The exhibition “Cryptohematology: Secrets In My Bloodline” is a retrospective of work by Kenny from 2000 through 2008. The retrospective echoes a gallery of ancestor portraiture or family trees, as a metaphor for the resemblances, relationships, and interdependencies among living things that Kenny’s work explores. The exhibition contains mature content and minors will be required to be accompanied by an adult.
The Kenny exhibition will coincide with the West Hollywood Winter ArtWalk, held in cooperation with the FADA Los Angeles Art Show and the City of Los Angeles’ “L.A. Arts Month." Visit Glass Garage Gallery and Art On The Avenue websites for more details regarding the exhibition and the ArtWalk.
Steven Kenny is one of fifty artists featured in beinArt Publishing's 'Metamorphosis'
