Exhibition: April 15th – April 29th, 2009

Opening Reception: Friday, April 17th, 6-9pm

.

Over the last 7 years Jon Beinart's drawings and Toddlerpede doll sculptures have attained a notoriety on the internet and have been published in a number of magazines and books (including FHM, Bizarre, Maxim, Virus, Dot Dot Dash, Inside Artzine, Stu, Provokator, Kalimat, Silkmilk MagiZain and beinArt Publishing's 'Metamorphosis')

"Drawing is my oldest outlet, an obsession that is deeply rooted and has become fundamental to my well being. I generally draw spontaneously and have no concept in mind as an image unfolds. Recurring themes are figures and portraits made of small images, characters and body parts. People often ask how long i take to complete a drawing. The answer is: I don't know. I prefer to keep my process painless by ignoring time." – Jon Beinart

You can view Beinart's drawings and sculpture at www.jonbeinart.com

Signed copies of beinArt Publishing's 'Metamorphosis' will be available at the opening.

Lana Gentry Interviews Jon Beinart

March 23rd, 2009 by Jon Beinart

Lana Gentry Interviews Jon BeinartI was recently interviewed by Lana Gentry and I was so happy with her approach that I invited Lana to interview artists in the beinArt Collective. I interviewed a number of artists for the site a long time ago and decided to stop since I was running out of energy for it… I was already too involved with publishing art books and running the website… Since then I’ve been looking out for an interviewer and Lana has agreed to give it a go… So more artist interviews will be published on the beinArt blog soon. Happy days!

Here’s a link to Lana’s Interview with me.

I hope you enjoy!

Kris Kuksi sold Imminent Utopia for 100K

March 23rd, 2009 by Jon Beinart

Kris Kuksi sold Imminent UtopiaI just received some very exciting news from Kris Kuksi. Kris sold his largest sculpture to date; 'Imminent Utopia' for $100,000 USD to Mark Parker (CEO of NIKE). I've been watching Kris's career grow for many years and I believe that he is well on his way to becoming a celebrity artist. Kris's obsessive attention to detail and unique vision have captured the attention of millions of art enthusiasts over the last couple of years. Kris is a very friendly and humble individual who's sheer talent and dedication to his art never ceases to impress me. Go Kris!

Images of Kris Kuksi's sculptures recently graced Sepultura's 'A-Lex' album sleeve.

Kris Kuksi is one of 50 Artists featured in Metamorphosis 1 (beinArt Publishing).

Kris Kuksi was interviewed previously on beinArt.org.

Laurie Lipton Wows the Crowds at Pulse Art Fair

March 14th, 2009 by Leo Plaw

Love Bite – Laurie Lipton

According to a blog posting by Brian Sherwin, one of our featured artists, Laurie Lipton has had very good success with Santa Monica’s Copro Nason Gallery at the Pulse Art Fair in NYC.

Laurie was interviewed previously for the beinArt.org art news blog. She says "I'm happiest when I'm sitting at my drawing table. The rest of life seems like an annoying interruption. I would gladly just draw and never go out or talk to anyone…"

beinArt Publishing's first book, "Metamorphosis – 50 Contemporary Surreal Fantastic and Visionary Artists" featured Laurie's artwork.

We would like to congratulate Laurie on her success at the art fair and hope that this is only just the beginning.

Berlin Visionaries – Anja Brinkmann, Leo Plaw and Micha Colory Krebs

Anja Brinkmann, Leo Plaw and Micha Colory Krebs will be exhibiting a selection of recent paintings in their first collective group show. Having often met in Berlin to discuss their art, they have put words into action. The gallerist Karin Weissenbacher has been very accommodating.

The location of the exhibition, Schlossinsel Rantzau, is a river island on which a medieval fortress was built. The island with its historic buildings now forms the heart of a beautiful recreation area which makes an idyllic setting for the exhibition.

Christian van Minnen at Roq la Rue

March 6th, 2009 by Meg Woodsworth

Christian van Minnen beinArt GalleryPress Release from Christian van Minnen:

Roq la Rue Gallery presents…

Christian van Minnen – "Neo- Grotesque"

Opens Friday March 13th, 6-9pm

Runs through April 4th

Also showing: Yoko d'Holbachie

Roq La Rue is pleased to present a solo show by (recently transplanted to Seattle) painter Christian van Minnen. Van Minnen's works feature biological monstrosities painted in portrait form with a Renaissance formality. Like a strange cross between Giuseppe Arcimboldo, H.R. Giger, and a natural history museum, van Minnen's painting straddle the line between disturbingly ugly and serenely beautiful.

His newest work is his "Keyhole" series, in which a painted riot of organics ooze and flower on panel underneath another panel that has been cut out with the outline of a famous historical painting and burnished in rusted metallics and placed over the top. Van Minnen will be exhibiting 11 new paintings and a small selections of works painted in 2007-2008 that showcase his "Neo- Grotesque" style, a term that was recently coined for the resurgence of artists working with subject matter traditionally deemed unattractive or repulsive, but representing them in a sympathetic manner in a highly formal technical style.

"My painting process incorporates abstraction and representation that result in a chimera of flora and fauna. I draw inspiration from the work of Dutch Golden Age painters and natural sciences in equal parts. This show presents 10 new works and several landmark pieces from 2007-2008 of neo-grotesque or chimeric portraiture and still-life. I have been painting within the context of portraiture and still life as I find that within these traditions there is a pre-existant, and nacent visual language in portraiture and still life paintings. The viewer interacts with a portrait or a still-life in a certain way that is different and unique to those traditions; an inescapable mirror to our humanity. Like all of us, I am a suffering thing and this is how I attempt understand it." – Christian van Minnen

Also exhibiting is a very small show of work by Japanese painter Yoko d'Holbachie, whose work can best be described as Jim Woodring on acid. Her super poppy, psychedelic works also reflect a "grotesque" style, although more humorous and sweet in nature. D'holbachie works both with computer graphics as well as oil paints. Foe this show she will be exhibiting three small oil paintings.

Krzysztof Wlodarski Show in Zurich

March 6th, 2009 by Meg Woodsworth

Krzysztof Wlodarski beinArt GalleryPress Release from Krzysztof Wlodarski:

The Museum of Porn in Art presents Krzysztof Wlodarski

"These works are reflecting the very moment of head-on collision between the primary sphere of instinct (sex and violence) and the secondary sphere of culture (taboo). This leads to some sort of synthesis, its necessary result being a transgressive form of art. I call it the sleep of reason, as in the picture by Goya, because this is the manifestation of all that is pre-rational, anti-enlightenment, anti-creative. It is about the moments of insanity when the language and logic are suspended in favor of primal drives that otherwise are subject to suppression by cultural structures."

Opening on Friday the 6th of February, 2009 at 8pm in Edi's Weinstube, Stussihofstatt 14 in Zurich.

The exhibition is open from March the 7th until April the 2nd
