4th Dreamscape Edition in Amsterdam

February 26th, 2010 by Leo Plaw

Viktor Safonkin - Gambling with PainThe largest exhibition of Imaginary Realism in the Netherlands opens on Saturday the 13th of March. This new edition of Dreamscape features over forty artists representing contemporary expressions of Magical Realism, Fantastic Realism, Surrealism and Visionary Realism. On exhibit are paintings, drawings and sculptures made by new great masters and emerging talent. During the vernissage on the 13th the book Dreamscapes 2010 will also be presented.

Once again Dreamscape introduces the latest developments in the field of Imaginary Realism with success. The vernissage from the previous Dreamscape exhibition attracted over a thousand visitors. The upcoming Dreamscape exhibition is introducing a subtle shift from the traditional to more playful, dark and illustrative sides of the movement. Traditional Imaginary Realism is represented by international masters such as Victor Safonkin (also the guest of honor of the Dreamscapes book), Lukas Kandl, David Bowers, Siegfried Zademack, Herman Smorenburg and Gerard Di Maccio. The new dark side of the movement can be found in the works of Steve Mitchell, Frank C. Hauser, Jan Tervoort and Pedro de Kastro. Historical tales, Bosch scenes and bizarre visions are reflected in the work of Micha Lobi, Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk (Cirque de Pepin), Patrick Woodroffe, Gil Bruvel, Jef Bertels and Tomek Setowski. The Dreamscape exhibition offers all of this and much more, from the ambiguously cute figures of Shiori Matsumoto, Escher-like worlds of Peter Gric, and masterly drawings of Laurie Lipton, to surprising work by newcomers Pit and Menunana. Both websites www.cabinodd.com and www.imaginaryrealism.com offer a good foundation and survey of the Dreamscape artists, as well a full list of those participating.

Dreamscape is organized by Marcel Salome (Imaginary Editions) and Ella Buzo (Cabinodd Collections). Both have joined forces in developing the Dreamscape concept, driven by a large and growing network of collectors and artists. Dreamscape strives to provide a representative image of artists who have achieved the techniques of the old masters and also expose the varied styles of Imaginary Realism. This upcoming exhibition is a fusion of renowned and emerging talent; its unique perspective is a simple ‘must see’ for anyone interested in Imaginary art.

During the vernissage on Saturday, March 13, the book Dreamscapes 2010 will be presented featuring the Russian artist Victor Safonkin as guest of honor. Safonkin’s fiery painting technique and imagination are well established within the field. The publication, issued by Imaginary Editions, features sixty eight international artists, forty of which are participating in the exhibition. Both the Dreamscape exhibition and book launch Saturday, March 13th at 14.00. The opening is free and the exhibit can be viewed up until March 21. Don’t miss it!

Invisible College

The Invisible College - 5th edition

The Invisible College - 5th edition

Edition five of the Invisible College is now availible. The publication features the artwork of Amanda Sage and Leo Plaw. There is also a three page interview with Leo.

The Invisible College is a publication is dedicated to the emerging cultural forces of our times, and to anchor these cultural groups into perspective within the continuum of the twin streams of the Bohemian & Acadian memes. The magazine came into being about two and half years ago as there seemed to be a serious gap in the magazine/journal world for publications that was tracking and recording what has been evolving in the world of arts and consciousness.

The idea is to present art, poetry, tales, interviews and reviews in such a way to lift consciousness, and to engage the reader to consider alternatives to the current cultural systems that have now peaked and are now in decline. As artist and poets have been in the forefront of the various struggles and movements in society from time out of mind, journals and magazines in recent centuries have become an important part of the documenting process and have served as a focal point and organizing organ of the various aspects of what seems to be transpiring in current times.

The Invisible College evolved out of Earthrites.org and the associated Turfing blog. There was a prototype magazine being developed on Earth Rites, and Turfing is a running social and arts commentary blog. It was Robert Venosa, Martina Hoffmann or maybe Mike Crowley that suggested it should evlove into a pdf magazine. After 2 issues, it went into printing via Lulu.com. It came out rather rapidly at first, and now has slowed down a bit. We are going to keep going with the print on demand situation until we can find funding to print. The Invisible College has had some amazing artist, poets and writers grace its pages. You can go to the Invisible College web page for free downloads of the web versions and also to find a link to order a printed copy of The Invisible College.

Old Skool VS. New Skool – Pulse Contemporary Art Fair NYC

The Juxtapoz Factor (Juxtapoz School) NYC book launch

March 5 through March 8, 2009

Copro Gallery, in our debut appearance at Pulse NY is excited to present Old Skool Vs. New Skool, a mix of pioneering Old Skool artists contrasted against another generation of New Skoolers who are direct beneficiaries of the artistic breakthroughs spearheaded by Robert Williams, Robert Crumb and Rick Griffin.

This exhibition organically grows from an art movement that has been documented and promoted by best selling art magazine Juxtapoz. Laguna Art Museum recently featured and validated Juxtapoz's support and influence of this skill-based pop surrealist movement with a block buster exhibition curated by Meg Linton of Otis college of Art and Design. Following this with a just released historic catalogue In the Land of Retinal Delights – The Juxtapoz Factor (Juxtapoz School) Copro Gallery will be hosting the East Coast Launch and book signing on the first day of Pulse.

On display will be: R. Crumb's, "Fritz The No Good", the entire long lost "City Of The Future" from Zap 0,  Robert Williams most famous and controversial painting "Appetite for Destruction" (below right,)  Rick Griffin's masterpiece of cross hatching "OMO Bob" and much more. These important artists helped bust down the underground door for a new generation and movement of fresh artists with a brand new style.

These New Skool artists ranging from visionary Lola, Nathan Spoor, Dan May (below right) and Laurie Lipton of London to New York artists Martin Wittfooth, Ron English and Travis Louie will present their latest work.  We hope you join us for this museum quality exhibition and book signing event.

Anne Bachelier – The Phantom of the Opera

"The Phantom of the Opera" / "La Fantôme de l'Opéra"

Text by Gaston Leroux, Illustrations by Anne Bachelier

Bi-Lingual (English and French)

 .

.

"The Phantom of the Opera" is the quintessential 'Gothic' tale. It recounts the love triangle between Christine Daaé, a beautiful innocent, Raoul, the future Count of Changny, and Erik, the deformed, twisted "Phantom of the Opera" who inhabits the nether regions of the Opéra Garnier (The Paris Opera House)…

This book is the fourth major literary collaboration between Anne Bachelier and CFM Gallery and follows such previous successes Princess of Wax, Rose Daughter (A Retelling of Beauty and the Beast), and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Once again, Anne Bachelier's beautifully vivid artwork illuminates a classic story as never before imagined.

Promethean Flames – Philip Rubinov Jacobson

October 27th, 2008 by Leo Plaw
Promethean Flames - Philip Rubinov Jacobson

Promethean Flames – Philip Rubinov Jacobson

Philip Jacobson has released his second and long awaited book, "Promethean Flames". His book approaches art and spirituality with theoretical and impassioned reflections on the highest calling of the visual arts.

It delineates the boundaries and bridges between the creative process and illumination by exploring, expounding and integrating the fields of art, creativity, psychology, religion and philosophy.

It also surveys the situation between the contemporary art world and the modern creative mystic, between the artist and the responder, the states and stages of illumined artistic vision and the very path of art as a tool for the transformation of consciousness.

"It is a great pleasure to be friends with Philip. He is a great Artist, Writer and a man of action. Philip has dedicated a massive amount of energy into a movement that is very close to my heart. The global Fantastic & Visionary Art movement would be more than a man short without Philip's energy. Phil has published books on our movement, featuring many great artists, he's produced an impressive body of work and he has exposed people to the magic of Visionary art with his personable, hands-on seminars. It is my pleasure to Recommend this passionate man to the art world (and the world at large)." Jon Beinart, Director & Editor, beinArt Publishing

An excerpt from Philip's book, "Promethean Flames" can be found in the essay, "Promethean Flames – Rekindling and Re-visioning the Creative Fire".

"Promethean Flames" can be purchased from Philip's MySpace page.
