This collection highlights an all-new set of characters from Viveros’s fictitious Dirtyland, an alternate universe filled with strong, irreverent kick-ass female warriors relishing post-victory rule. These survivors are depicted wearing Viveros’s signature helmets and other iconic headgear, which are inspired by interests from his childhood.
For this new body of work, Viveros has infused new characters, energy and life, exploring new media and colour palettes and pushing his evolving Dirtyland world to the next chapter. This exhibition includes pieces that are special tributes to some of his favorite comic heroes, pop culture icons and musicians.
California artist Brian M. Viveros has an unmistakably arresting hand. His highly detailed paintings of defiant doe-eyed beauties summon a raw poetic of intractability. Beautiful yet barbarous, they draw from the power of the feminine and its reconciliation of vulnerability, beauty and power. These hyperreal portraits deliver cult-worthy heroines emerging triumphant from battle. Viveros’s work elevates the iconography of the femme fatale as an emblem of strength and power.
