Hugo D. Villa - Pájaro Brujo

Pájaro Brujo (Witch Bird) is a  series of paintings by Hugo D. Villa. It is a pictorial journey that seeks to represent the sensory experience and subsequent learning in a personal search for reconnection with nature and its inalienable encounter with the mysticism so characteristic of Mexican culture.

Opening reception: Saturday, May 28th, 6 - 9pm

This exhibition will run from May 25th to June 12th and will coincide with Gerard Geer's Imaginary Forests and Zarina Situmorang's Holding On.

The title of the exhibition refers to the popular belief of the "Nahual,” indigenous wise men who, due to the strong connection they have with their animal spirit, have the ability to transform into it, or even into other animals or atmospheric elements. Each painting shows beings in transformation, not unlike the Nahuales, merging with elements of nature or unexpected textures that...
