microKosmos is an exhibition of new miniature oil paintings by Marina Dieul.
Opening reception: Saturday, September 7, from 6–9 pm. Free entry.
This solo exhibition runs from September 8 to September 29, alongside QimmyShimmy's show A Little Heart & Miso's show Oleanders.
This collection is a continued exploration of Dieul’s fascination with trompe-l'oeil and her love for animals. Some of her paintings are life-size and others are miniatures, allowing her to play with different scales for storytelling. Her love of optical effects and the observation of our foster cats interacting with Christmas balls inspired the new miniseries Reflexion.
Marina Dieul was born in France. She showed great interest in painting and drawing from an early age. She passed the baccalaureate at Lettre-Arts, followed by studies at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lorient. Eventually Dieul moved to Canada, where she lives with her family.
Dieul is best known for her animal and figure paintings in trompe-l'oeil style, full of humor and poetry. She works in her Montreal studio surrounded by the many cats she fosters.
Dieul won the William Bouguereau Best of Show Award, first place in the drawing category at the Art Renewal Center Salon, the Best of Show in the Inspiring Figures exhibition (Butler Institute of American Art) and two Awards of Exceptional merit at the Portrait Society of America’s international competitions. She has also been awarded the Kingston Prize. Finally, she has been selected as a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center.
Her work has been exhibited in many locations in Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. Her paintings are admired and collected throughout the world.
Complimentary wine will be available at the opening. For those wanting a non-alcoholic option, we will also have drinks provided by Remedy Kombucha.
