Dust gathers in layers over the years, but the stories—like ghosts of the past—remain bound to them. These objects hold repeating memories of moments when they were not just sitting in wait, but part of a life, part of someone’s story.
In creating this series, King visited museums and old houses for inspiration. Walking through rooms full of relics, it’s easy to forget that these antiques once belonged to someone—that they were part of a home, or someone’s everyday working life.
In this body of work, King paints these objects as if shedding their dust—capturing a glimpse of their imagined past life. Set in forests, on beaches, and along worn paths, the paintings echo the lives of those who walked before us, playing out their memories in places now still.
