Samuel Farnham - Propagules
In Propagules, Samuel Farnham debuts a body of work portraying the early phases of learnt behaviour. Often using the human eye as a symbol for seeds planted within the mind, he explores their potential to grow into functional or dysfunctional behaviours. This symbolism invites us to re-evaluate the garden of our own minds, and cast a careful eye over anything we might need to weed out.
Opening reception: Saturday, November 22nd, 5 - 8 pm. This is a free event and complimentary drinks will be provided by our friends at Stomping Ground Brewing Co., Fin Wines and Cré Wines.

This exhibition will run from Nov 23rd - Dec 14th, 2025, and will coincide with Erika Sanada and Calvin Ma's Bond, Miho Hirano's The Beauties of Nature and Dewi Plass's Comfort Zone.
Propagules alludes to the many branches of possibility presented in our lives. Each piece highlights a key aspect of the artist’s growth from youth to adulthood, and presents those moments before external and internal factors transform them into rigid behaviours. The pieces in Propagules are in their infancy stage, aiming to show only the beginning moments of a longer development process.
In creating this collection, Farnham drew inspiration from an intrinsic desire to better understand the inner workings of his mind. He created pieces to both enlighten himself and encourage the self-reflection of the audience: “I want people to walk away with a deeper understanding of their own behaviours, and a more open mind to embrace changing what needs to be changed.” Propagules asks us the question: Who will we allow ourselves to grow into?
Australian artist Samuel Farnham works predominantly with oil and ceramics to explore the malleable nature of identity. He is best known for creating surreal, allegorical artworks using classical approaches inspired by such artists as William Bouguereau. Farnham’s work explores themes of memory, identity and introspection, to examine how one’s self is moulded or contaminated by its environment. His practice seeks to invite quiet reflection with an ultimate goal of promoting mental healing and self-actualisation.
