On My Way to Paradise, Shaun Tan's fourth solo exhibition at Beinart Gallery, will feature a varied collection of original artworks published in the recent retrospective Creature, along with original paintings from the Kate Greenaway Medal-winning collection Tales from The Inner City and other stories, available for purchase for the first time.

BOOK SIGNING: Shaun Tan will be signing copies of his books at the gallery on May 13th, from 1pm - 4pm. A selection of Tan's books will be available for purchase during the signing. As we expect a significant turnout for the signing, we are limiting the number of signed books to 2 per person.

All artworks touch on the notion of ‘paradise’ as a kind of ideal state or destination that is never quite real or attainable, at least not in the way that we typically imagine. The reality of ordinary life has an excellent knack for unhinging our fantasies, but also reminding us that true moments of happiness are not always part of our premeditated plans. Often the most lyrical moments of beauty, awareness and triumph happen on the road to somewhere else, through dark rooms and unexpected detours, and may well escape our notice as we set our sights, rightly or wrongly, on some imaginary place where all is well.
