Born in The Hague, Netherlands in 1968, Bella Ormseth now lives and works on a small island in Puget Sound, near Seattle, WA. She received a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990. She has taught art in the Vashon public schools, had her own interior design consulting business, and for many years worked as a software engineering product manager, all while maintaining her painting practice. She currently devotes most of her time to painting.
Her work is a visual representation of an emotion. The recognizable elements of her paintings – landscape, interior, plants, animals, people - create a narrative setting in which the emotion unfolds. The subjects of her work can be intimate and personal, as well as a reaction to the world at large. She is stirred by nature, both the natural world outside, and human nature within.
