Gustavo Rimada, a Mexican-born artist based in California, is known for his unique style that blends bold colour palettes, stylized subjects, and a mix of Mexican visuals, art history, and contemporary tattoo culture.

Gustavo Rimada, a Mexican-born artist based in California, is known for his unique style that blends bold colour palettes, stylized subjects, and a mix of Mexican visuals, art history, and contemporary tattoo culture.
At the age of seven Rimada's family migrated to California, leaving him with a sense of disconnection, as if he had missed out on something. Living in the US necessitated assimilation, yet as he embraced his artistic journey, he embarked on a quest for self-discovery and reconnection with his roots. His paintings bridge his ancestral heritage and his current life in the United States, creating a dynamic fusion of two cultures.
Rimada's art career took a backseat while he served in the army, but when he was given two large MDA boards to paint on, it reignited his passion from childhood to draw- something he remembered fondly from his early days in Mexico. He quickly filled sketchbooks, painted on everything from shoes to bags, sketching and painting day and night. Soon he began working in a tattoo shop, which found it's way into his artistic practice.
In 2022, a transformative visit to Mexico City reignited Rimada’s spirit. He fell in love with everything, from the ancient pyramids of Tenochtitlan to the vibrant streets of El Zocalo. This journey awakened a dormant part of himself, infusing his art with renewed passion and a profound sense of identity. Now, Rimada dedicates his life’s work to celebrating the beauty and history of his culture through his art.
