Jackee Sandelands-Strom

Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jackee Sandelands-Strom’s art is heavily influenced by her 20 plus year involvement in the tattoo industry. A dual citizen thanks to her British father, Sandelands-Strom and her tattoo artist husband relocated to Europe in 2014, settling in Edinburgh, Scotland where she began focusing on her art practice.

After once endeavouring to paint her own hands, Sandelands-Strom quickly found herself obsessed with the challenge of faithfully and realistically recreating the textures found in skin and tattoos, unintentionally establishing her motif of tattooed hands as a subject matter.

Now a master of this hyperrealist style Jackee Sandelands-Strom views her paintings of hands as her own exploration into the realms of portraiture, believing that much of a persons life and identity can be divined through a study of a persons hands and the objects they hold.
