In Mad World, Jesús Aguado presents paintings that act as windows into the everyday life of a world that, from the viewer’s perspective, may appear entirely mad. For its inhabitants, however, this strangeness is simply ordinary life.
Opening reception: Saturday, Jun 27th, 5 - 8 pm. This is a free event. As Beinart Gallery is a licensed venue, any minors attending the opening reception will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Each painting places Aguado’s characters at a precise narrative moment, an unusual scene that whilst detailed, refuses to offer a complete explanation. The world is in motion, the story taking place, and you - the viewer - are invited to fill in the blanks.
Although his paintings may appear strange or fantastical, Aguado does not consider them surrealist. His characters are not performing impossible feats or presenting dreamlike visions for our astonishment. They are accustomed to their unusual circumstances, and often seem bored by them. They are not figures trapped inside a dream; they are figures who have been clocking in to work in a dream for the last twenty years. Their world is unusual only to us. Aguado is especially interested in the moment when his characters appear to pose for the image. There is a comic theatricality in this gesture, a brief instant in which they seem aware of the viewer beyond the picture plane. They pause, present themselves to us, and then continue with their ordinary lives. In this way, Aguado’s paintings reflect the simultaneous absurdity and monotony of our own daily performances.
Jesús Aguado holds a degree in Fine Arts and has spent over 20 years as an illustrator. His work has featured in numerous publications by companies like Edelvives, Kumon, Santillana, and National Geographic. Always in pursuit of new styles and expressions, Aguado transitioned to traditional painting in 2018. His unique blend of absurdity and mystery in art reflects a constant exploration of life's paradoxes. Whether creating for commercial clients or indulging in personal projects, Aguado's work resonates with a broad audience, celebrating the joy and strangeness of existence.
