Meg Allan
Each of Meg Allan’s works acts as an echo between two distinct callings.
The first is that of the ‘Seen (external)’, which speaks of and is bound to physical existence.
The second comes from the ‘Unseen (internal)’, which is both a record of the collective unconscious and/or the diffusion of sentience through deep consideration of the Self.
Quite often, Allan’s images coexist within both callings. A portrait or still life may speak of physical existence while also containing elements of the soul and of memory.

Allan’s work is representational and can be symbolic, steeped in allegory, myth, prose, or spirituality. The act of building an image becomes a kind of searching implement, resonating between the Seen and the Unseen, always with the aim of obtaining a greater understanding of both. Her work seeks to stir thought, question perceptions of reality, and offer a sense of comfort and healing from within.

Allan works primarily with oil, graphite, and charcoal, favouring a layered and detailed approach. A classical painting enthusiast, her influences include William-Adolphe Bouguereau, John William Waterhouse, and Rembrandt van Rijn.
Allan is an Australian artist based in New South Wales. Her work is held in collections in Australia and internationally.
