Botanical Dreams is the latest collection of paintings by Yoko d’Holbachie. It is inspired by her memories of visiting ruins in her hometown during her childhood.
Opening reception: Saturday, February 4th, 6 - 9pm.
This exhibition will run from February 5th - February 26th and will coincide with our group exhibition Daydream and Masao Kinoshita's Metanatomy.
d’Holbachie’s hometown was a colony in the last war, and after the war ended, the buildings were off-limits for decades. As a child, she sneaked in and played there. The ruins were completely dominated by plants and were filled with a mysterious life force.
In this series, d’Holbachie seeks to recreate that feeling. Never-before-seen flowers, leaves and fruits grow wildly. There are no humans, but there are those whose presence can be felt, like ghosts. They are friendly and inviting. To stay there would be to fuse with them forever.
