Ambrosia

Acrylic on wood panel by David Lee Pereira (2021)

Painting size: 30 x 30 cm (11.8" x 11.8")

Framed

This painting is about unhealthy dating patterns based solely on desire and lust. Ambrosia, the food and drink of the gods, the honey/nectar is sweet and pulls you into the scene, but the fruit is bitter. The parasitic wasp represents the masculine, the parasite wasp lays its eggs in a host, the beetle, which is then devoured from the inside out. This is a metaphor for loneliness that results from a dating life based on sex and absent of emotional connection.

The artist is in a weird headspace at the moment.
