"These are four sketchbook pages featuring some of my earliest doodles for Hometown, focusing on the narrator’s parents, family, and a drawing of the girl sitting contemplatively under a tree. The small storyboard was a first test to see if my idea of a girl raised in a non-human world could work as a story. Unlike many similar sketchbook storyboards, I felt that this one actually worked, well enough to be developed into a longer story." - Shaun Tan
