Renée French – Creatures the Colour of Steve McQueen’s Hair in The Great Escape

Creatures the Colour of Steve McQueen’s Hair in The Great Escape is an exhibition of miniature paintings by Renée French. With all of the works coming in under 6 by 6 inches, French notes that by the time she got to the 5th or 6th painting, she needed a stronger prescription in her glasses. One subject she keeps returning to in her work is Scottish actor Dougie Henshall, whom she has painted as a bunny or a dog in the past, and this show features a few Henshall creatures. French uses acrylic paint on gessoed hardboard. French has said that she draws and paints “creatures who aren’t in the mood.”

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 3, from 6pm – 9pm. Free entry.

Exhibition runs from November 4 to November 25 and runs alongside Naoto Hattori’s solo show, Lucid Dreamer.
