Katie Barron

Katie Barron is a Tasmania-based artist who works primarily in oils. Her practice consists of creating oil paintings to explore concepts of play and its relation to appreciation and joy. Barron was selected for the 2023 RISE exhibition at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery celebrating ten of Tasmania’s most significant and collectible emerging artists. Barron has been selected as a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the York Botanic Art Prize, Western Australia, and winning first prize in the 2023 The Henry Jones Art Prize, Hobart.

Barron’s work celebrates joy in the everyday, transforming ordinary objects and nostalgic snacks into playful compositions. She assembles and photographs these fleeting arrangements before meticulously recreating them in oil on canvas.
