Lori Nelson

Growing up in a Mormon family, Lori Nelson was fascinated by religious art and iconography. This devotional background informs her work. Christian imagery merges with science fiction, magic realism, and traditional portraiture, creating whimsical otherworldly narratives. Nelson is known for her "Cryptotweens," adolescent monster-humanoids she depicts exploring nature, mythology, and their unique powers. Her paintings, rendered in layers of oil on panel, combine these elements into strange, fantastical scenes.

Nelson graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Utah, has exhibited in galleries worldwide and has been featured in Vice, Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, and Beautiful Bizarre magazines.
