Melissa Sue Stanley

Melissa Sue Stanley is an illustrator and sculptor from northern Illinois. Her work is deeply influenced by the vibrant Midwestern summers—cerulean skies, wind-tossed green boughs, glowing dandelions, and the hum of cicadas. Through watercolours, she explores open fields and dense forests, capturing fleeting moments of small magic and quiet mystery. Whether bright and rolling or dark and tangled, the landscapes she creates offer a place of rest for those navigating the wild terrain of modern life.

Stanley’s long-running storytelling project, Grisella’s Woolbeast Wayguide, introduces the creatures that inhabit these worlds. She has been crafting Woolbeasts for 15 years, with her creations collected internationally and exhibited in galleries across the United States.
