The following is a quote from Sarah about this painting:
"This piece was inspired by my visit to The garden district in New Orleans in 2017. The district has a beautiful and surreal quality about it... this is heightened by the Lafayette Cemetery that is situated on the city edge. The result is that you feel like you have been transported into a southern Gothic novel. Nature is coiling itself around everything, the homes are incredible and the upheaved pavements pose many threats to ankles. I am a huge fan of the novel ‘Great Expectations’ and although this isn’t where this story was based it fed into the imagery of this piece and the character ‘Estelle’." - Sarah Dolby
