"A lot of early ideas about Hometown involved religion, missionaries and creation myths. This is a page of sketches toying with ideas of a fictional mythology, particularly the contents of a special book brandished by a visiting astronaut. Similar elements can be found in the first endpaper illustration of the final book, Belonging I, which is possibly a glimpse of the astronaut’s book, otherwise largely unseen in the rest of the story." - Shaun Tan
