Synchronicity, a collection of new sculptures by Kim Slate, explores the unexpected harmony and shared humour found across the natural world, revealing the cosmic connections that unite all living things.
Opening reception: Saturday, September 27th 5 - 8 pm. Drinks will be provided by our friends at Stomping Ground Brewing Co., Fin Wines and Cré Wines.
This exhibition will run from Sept 28th - Oct 19th 2025, and will coincide with Shannon Taylor 's Storyteller, Xhanthi's A Secret Garden , and Lix North's Aves ex Machina.

In the animal kingdom, we observe striking resemblances in pattern and shape among seemingly disparate forms of life. Upon closer examination, we will discover cosmic connections—even between adversaries. From coincidence arises playful coordination and a shared sense of humour. Serendipity opens the door to delight. All living things, built from the same core elements, find their place in one consciousness—a mosaic of beautiful expressions of life.
From a young age, growing up in Eastern Washington, Kim Slate was captivated by the power images have to spark imagination and evoke emotion. Encouraged to pursue her creative interests, she went on to study animation, where storytelling brought those images to life in even more powerful ways. After graduating, she contributed her talents to several feature films, most recently Guillermo Del Toro’s award-winning Pinocchio.
In her sculpture and painting practice, Slate has developed a distinctive perspective, bringing to life the mysterious and often mischievous adventures of both ordinary and exotic creatures. Each piece hints at a larger story, with her charming characters caught in moments of scheming, play, or discovery. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where she enjoys running its forest trails and travelling with her husband and young son.
